President Prabowo Subianto has emphasised that economic growth and investment are not the end goal of development, but rather instruments for improving public welfare.

“For me, growth and investment are not the end goal. Our goal is the welfare of our people,” President Prabowo said at the 2026 Annual Session of the MPR RI and the Joint Session of the DPR-DPD RI at the MPR/DPR RI Building in Jakarta on Friday.

According to him, high economic growth and investment figures that cannot be enjoyed by the Indonesian people will not provide any benefit whatsoever.

He said that every rupiah of investment entering Indonesia must be able to create jobs, while every government policy must have an impact on improving people’s lives.

“Every rupiah of investment must create jobs, must produce an improvement in the quality of life of our people, especially those at the very bottom. That is the orientation of the government I lead,” he said.

President Prabowo stressed that a great nation will never abandon its hungry people, especially as Indonesia is a member of the G20.

He affirmed that the government will continue to seek solutions so that the Indonesian people can enjoy equitable prosperity.

“We must not abandon those who are powerless, we must not allow hunger to exist on Indonesian soil. The Republic of Indonesia, a G20 member, does not deserve to still have people who are hungry,” he said.

On Friday, the MPR RI, DPR RI and DPD RI held the Annual Session of the MPR RI and the Joint Session of the DPR RI-DPD RI, which included President Prabowo Subianto’s speech for the delivery of the performance reports of state institutions and the State Address of the President of the Republic of Indonesia in the context of the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia. In addition to the speech, the government also screened a video of government performance achievements.

This annual session is a state agenda to welcome the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia, which carries the theme “A Sovereign, Just and Prosperous Indonesia”.
