President Prabowo Subianto shared a Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) with students of the Sekolah Rakyat Menengah Pertama (SRMP) 17 Tabanan in Bali. The lunch took place following the Head of State’s inspection of public school facilities on the island on Sunday, 7 June 2026.

During the event, Prabowo provided guidance in the presence of Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf, Cabinet Secretary Lieutenant Colonel Teddy Indra Wijaya, students, and parents regarding the administration of public schools. A live broadcast from the Presidential Secretariat showed Prabowo moving from the main hall to the dining area, where a student formally announced that lunch was ready, to which Prabowo responded, “Proceed.”

The former Minister of Defence engaged in brief dialogue with the students and sat amongst them and the parents. They ate the provided lunch from traditional meal containers (ompreng) while conversing.

Prior to the meal, Prabowo expressed his satisfaction with the development of public schools but noted that significant work remains due to high demand. He specifically ordered his cabinet members to increase the number of public schools in Bali. Minister Saifullah Yusuf reported that there is currently only one such school in Bali, noting that the student population at SRMP 17 Tabanan has reached approximately 400, despite a physical capacity of only 270 children. The land for the school is provided by the Bali Provincial Government.

“We must increase the number as quickly as possible. We will endeavour to work with regents; if that is not possible, the central government will find the necessary land,” Prabowo stated. He further instructed his aides to address capacity limitations by optimising unused state assets. He also gave specific instructions to Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya to coordinate with other ministries and agencies to identify underutilised facilities that could be temporarily used until permanent school buildings are constructed.
