Prabowo: DPR Ratifies Domestic Worker Protection Law, Every Worker Deserves Safeguards

President Prabowo Subianto highlighted the achievements of the legislative institutions, including the House of Representatives (DPR), in his speech at the 2026 Annual Session of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) and the Joint Session of the DPR and the Regional Representatives Council (DPD). Prabowo noted that the DPR had passed the Domestic Workers Protection Law (UU PPRT), a breakthrough achieved after a 22-year journey.

This was conveyed by Prabowo during the Annual Session of the MPR and the Joint Session of the DPR-DPD 2026 at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday (14/8/2026). Prabowo spoke from the podium before all members of the MPR, DPR, and DPD.

“The DPR, together with the government, has completed and enacted 13 bills up to July 2026, one of which is Law Number 2 of 2026 on the Protection of Domestic Workers,” said Prabowo.

Prabowo stated that this legal framework demonstrates the state’s commitment to recognising that all forms of work are entitled to protection.

“The recognition that every job has dignity and every worker is entitled to protection,” he said.

The Domestic Workers Protection Bill was passed into law on 21 April. The bill was approved in a DPR plenary meeting chaired by Speaker Puan Maharani, accompanied by Deputy Speakers Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal, and Saan Mustopa.

The plenary meeting was attended by 314 of the 578 DPR members from all factions. The approval began with a report on the deliberation of the bill by the Chair of the Working Committee and Chair of the DPR Legislation Body, Bob Hasan.

Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas, representing the government, welcomed the passage of the bill into law. Supratman said the protection of domestic workers is in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s wishes.
