Prabowo: Downstreaming Must Be Based on the Best Technology, Prioritising Benefits for the People

President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, has emphasised the importance of developing national downstreaming projects that are adaptive to technological developments and oriented towards the interests of the people.

This was stated during the groundbreaking of the national downstreaming project Phase II at Refinery Unit IV in Cilacap, Central Java, on Wednesday (29/4/2026).

Prabowo stressed that every strategic project must be evaluated objectively and scientifically, in line with rapid technological progress.

“I ask that we be objective and scientific. We calculate it mathematically. If this project, even though we have already announced it and conducted a feasibility study one year ago or six months ago, and then today there is a technological development, we can obtain better, cheaper technology that is more beneficial for the people, then we must dare to change the plan,” he asserted in a written statement received by Kompas.com.

“Continuously study the technology. Look at it mathematically. There are no other interests. The most efficient and beneficial for the people, that is what must be implemented,” he explained.

Furthermore, Prabowo expressed optimism about Indonesia’s future.

He invited all elements of the nation to unite and maintain the direction of national development, including through strengthening downstreaming as a pillar of economic independence.

“We must become a giant that does not sleep. We must become a giant that wakes up. And we will wake up. We will become a great nation,” said Prabowo.

He also emphasised the importance of unity amid diversity as the nation’s main strength. According to Prabowo, differences must become a wealth that strengthens, not divides.

On the other hand, Prabowo reminded that stability and peace are important foundations for the nation’s progress, amid challenging global dynamics.

“Peace is very valuable. We protect our nation,” he stated.

Through an approach based on the best technology and the interests of the people, Indonesia’s downstreaming is directed to become a new engine of efficient, modern, and sovereign growth towards Indonesia as a major world economic power.
