Prabowo: Do Not Let Democracy Be Hijacked by the Wealthy
President Prabowo Subianto has stressed that democratic security must be well maintained. He warned that democracy should not be hijacked by those with a lot of money. This was conveyed by Prabowo at the peak celebration of the 80th Bhayangkara anniversary at the Brimob Training Centre in Cikeas, Bogor, on Wednesday, 1 July 2026. “But we must also safeguard democratic security. Do not let democracy be hijacked by those who have a lot of money,” said Prabowo. “Do not let our democracy be damaged by foreign interests,” he continued. On that occasion, Prabowo also reminded that differences of opinion must not become a source of hatred and division. “We are all children of the Indonesian nation. We must always prioritise unity and harmony amongst us,” Prabowo explained. In addition, Prabowo invited all parties to be open and respect all criticism. According to him, criticism is very much needed in order to improve oneself. “We respect criticism. Criticism is important. We need criticism to remind us. We need criticism to improve ourselves,” he stated. Furthermore, Prabowo asked the National Police to be guardians of democracy and to guarantee that every citizen can express their opinion peacefully. “The National Police must be guardians, must become mature guardians of democracy, ensuring every citizen can express their opinion peacefully and at the same time ensuring that the law is upheld and order is maintained,” Prabowo concluded.
