Prabowo: Do Not Admire Nations That Loot the Wealth of Other Countries
Jakarta — VIVA reports: President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto urged all parties not to admire nations that loot the wealth of other countries. He made the remarks during the 19th Plenary Session of the DPR RI, Session V of the 2025-2026 Session Year, in delivering the Macro Economic Framework (KEM) and Core Principles of Fiscal Policy (PPKF) for the RAPBN 2027, at the Nusantara Building, MPR/DPR/DPD-RI, Jakarta, on Wednesday, 20 May 2026.
At the outset, Prabowo called on everyone to be bold in confronting problems, even if they are challenges, obstacles, or shortcomings in managing Indonesia’s economy. “Let us be brave to face problems even if they are challenges, obstacles, or shortcomings. Regarding the management of our country’s economy, it has indeed been formulated by our founding fathers,” he said.
He also stressed that Indonesia’s founders were not naive or gullible. They experienced colonisation, dishonour, enslavement, and the plundering of the nation’s dignity, he said. “Our founders were not people who were naive or gullible. They felt colonisation, they felt dishonoured, enslaved, the wealth of Nusantara taken by our colonisers to enrich themselves,” he noted.
Thus, Prabowo reminded the Indonesian nation not to harbour a sense of inferiority toward other countries, especially those that acquire wealth through colonial practices. “We should not be too fond of nations whose wealth comes from plundering the wealth of other nations,” he asserted. “We should not be demeaned. We should not always admire what they teach us when they themselves do not practise what they preach to us,” he added.
Nevertheless, he acknowledged that he is not asking everyone to hate anyone or other nations. However, Prabowo stressed that he invites everyone to learn from history. “I am not asking us to hate anyone. I am not asking us to hate other nations. No. On the contrary, I invite us to learn, but we must also learn from history,” he said.
