Prabowo Distributes 1,098 Sacrificial Cows with Rp 100 Billion Budget
Deputy Minister of State Secretariat Juri Ardiantoro revealed that the budget for sacrificial cows distributed by President Prabowo Subianto reached Rp 100 billion. The funds come from the Presidential Social Assistance Budget.
“The budget comes from the state budget via the Presidential Assistance, Social Assistance Budget. The price of cows varies based on weight and location,” Juri said at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta.
“We adjust cow prices per region, with approximately Rp 100 billion spent,” he added.
Juri stated that a total of 1,098 sacrificial cows were distributed by Prabowo, with 598 delivered to regional authorities and the remainder to educational institutions and community leaders.
The cows were procured through coordination between the Ministry of State Secretariat via the Presidential Secretariat, the Ministry of Agriculture, and regional livestock and animal health agencies. The government also collaborated with the Indonesian Cattle Breeders and Fattening Association (APPSI) and suppliers to ensure all cattle met sacrificial requirements.
“Thus, the provision of 1,098 cows was successfully achieved through collaboration with suppliers and parties ensuring all animals meet sacrificial standards,” he said.
According to Juri, all sacrificial cows were sourced from local farmers, which is expected to provide them with an opportunity to enhance productivity and livestock quality. The president annually requests domestic-sourced sacrificial cows.
“All the cows come from local farmers, so they can use this as a momentum to improve productivity and quality, as they know the president requests domestic-sourced sacrificial cows each year,” he added.
Furthermore, the government hopes this initiative will drive the development of a self-sufficient national livestock industry and help meet domestic food needs, particularly beef.
