President Prabowo Subianto has allocated 1,098 sacrificial cattle for Eid al-Adha 1447 AH this year. The thousands of cattle will be distributed across all provinces, regencies, and cities in Indonesia, as well as to social and religious institutions. State Secretariat Deputy Minister Juri Ardiantoro stated that 598 cattle are allocated to local governments nationwide, while the remaining 500 are distributed to Islamic boarding schools, educational institutions, social organisations, community leaders, and religious figures. “This year, in observance of Eid al-Adha 1447 AH (2026), President Prabowo has approved the distribution of 1,098 sacrificial cattle,” Ardiantoro said during a press conference at the Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta on Tuesday (26/5). He explained that the distribution covers all administrative regions in Indonesia, comprising 38 provinces and 514 regencies and cities. However, the number of cattle allocated to local governments exceeds the number of recipient areas. According to Ardiantoro, this is due to 46 regions lacking cattle meeting the president’s weight standard. To address this, some regions receive additional cattle from other areas. “The presidential standard for cattle weight is 800 kilograms to 1.3 tonnes. Each region is allocated one, but 46 regions lack cattle meeting this standard. Therefore, some receive two cattle,” he said. In addition to local governments, the sacrificial cattle will be distributed to various social and religious institutions, including Islamic boarding schools, educational bodies, and community leaders deemed capable of distributing the animals to local residents. “598 for regional governments and 500 for social, religious institutions, boarding schools, and leaders, totalling 1,098 cattle,” Ardiantoro said. The selected cattle are premium breeds including Simmental, Limousin, Ongole crossbred, Brahman, Angus, Belgian Blue, and Bali cattle. All meet the weight requirement of over 800 kilograms and have valid health certificates. “Additionally, the cattle comply with Islamic requirements for sacrificial animals: they are over two years old, male, and free from defects,” he added. Behind the distribution, the government has engaged local breeders across regions. The procurement is coordinated by the State Secretariat Ministry, Ministry of Agriculture, regional livestock agencies, and the Indonesian Cattle Breeders and Feeders Association (APPSI). Ardiantoro stated all cattle are sourced from domestic breeders, hoping the Eid al-Adha occasion will boost local breeders’ productivity and the national livestock industry. “All cattle sources are local breeders, who are expected to leverage this opportunity to enhance productivity and quality,” he said. He added that the head of state has instructed the distribution to target needy communities in each region. “President Prabowo has directed that the sacrificial cattle be fully utilised by those in need across regions,” Ardiantoro said. Additionally, Ardiantoro noted the procurement of 1,098 presidential sacrificial cattle cost approximately Rp100 billion from the state budget (APBN) via presidential social assistance. Budget amounts vary as cattle prices adjust to weight and procurement locations across regions. “Funds are sourced from APBN via presidential social assistance. Cattle prices vary by weight and location, hence adjustments per region. Total expenditure is approximately Rp100 billion,” he said.
