Prabowo Distributes 1,098 Sacrificial Cattle for 2026 Eid al-Adha, Including 1.3-Tonne Specimens
This year, for the 1447 Hijriah Idul Adha holiday, the president has granted the distribution of 1,098 sacrificial cattle,” said Deputy Minister of State Secretariat Juri Ardiantoro on Tuesday, May 25, 2026.
Of the total, 598 cattle will be distributed to 552 regions. Forty-six regions will receive two cattle each as the available livestock does not meet the presidential standard weight. The presidential standard requires cattle weighing between 800kg and 1.3 tonnes.
“A total of 552 provincial and district governments will receive 598 cattle. This is because 46 regions lack cattle meeting the presidential standard, hence some receive two animals,” he added.
“The presidential standard specifies cattle weighing between 800kg and 1.3 tonnes. However, 46 regions do not have cattle of that weight, so they receive two animals each,” he continued.
Additionally, 500 cattle will be allocated to educational institutions and community leaders. Prabowo has instructed that these animals be distributed to those in need.
“The president’s sacrificial cattle will be given to educational institutions, including pesantren (Islamic boarding schools), community leaders, and religious figures, totalling 500 animals,” said Juri.
“Thus, 598 cattle for regional governments and 500 for religious and social institutions, including pesantren and community leaders,” he added.
The cattle distributed by the president include various breeds such as Simmental, Limousin, Peranakan Ongole (PO), Brahman, Angus, Bali, Friesian Holstein (FH), Belgian Blue, and Charolais. Juri confirmed the animals meet health certification standards in addition to weight requirements.
Juri explained the funding for the sacrificial cattle comes from the state budget (APBN), totalling approximately Rp 100 billion.
“The funding is sourced from the presidential assistance budget, specifically for community welfare. Cattle prices vary based on weight and regional factors, so adjustments are made per area. The total expenditure is approximately Rp 100 billion,” he stated.
Juri explained the procurement of 1,098 sacrificial cattle was coordinated by the State Secretariat Ministry through the Presidential Secretariat, the Ministry of Agriculture, and local animal husbandry and veterinary departments. The government also collaborated with the Indonesian Cattle Breeders and Feeders Association (APPSI) and suppliers to ensure all animals meet sacrificial requirements.
“All cattle sources are from local breeders, who are expected to use this opportunity to boost productivity and quality, as they know the president annually requests sacrificial cattle,” he added.
