Prabowo Discusses Two-State Solution for Palestine in Meeting with Macron

President Prabowo Subianto and French President Emmanuel Macron discussed Middle East stability during a state visit at the Élysée Palace in Paris, France, on Thursday, 28 May 2026. Prabowo stated that Middle East stability directly impacts global energy conditions and supply chains. Prabowo also highlighted France’s support for a two-state solution as a path to peace in Palestine. According to Prabowo, France is a leading nation that has encouraged many European and Western countries to back the two-state solution for Palestinian independence. “Indonesia remains of the view that there can be no peace in the Middle East without a two-state solution and justice for the Palestinian people,” Prabowo said during a joint press statement with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace on Thursday, 28 May 2026, according to the Presidential Secretary on Friday, 29 May 2026. Prabowo also emphasised the close collaboration between the two nations in bilateral cooperation, addressing global uncertainties, and affirmed the importance of Indonesia and France’s roles in maintaining world peace. “In today’s world, where the globe has become smaller due to science and technology, war and conflict cannot bring benefits to anyone,” the Head of State said. The chairman of Gerindra Party also welcomed the strengthened cooperation between the two countries through the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CEPA). The Head of State expressed appreciation for Macron’s support for increased investment and economic cooperation between the nations, including the establishment of the France-Indonesia High-Level Business Council. “We will be delighted by the continued participation and presence of French companies in Indonesia’s economy, and France, as a European leader, will continue to play a crucial role in Southeast Asia,” Prabowo said. Indonesia, Prabowo stated, views France and Europe as key strategic partners in creating a balanced and peaceful multipolar world order. He is optimistic that Indonesia-France relations will continue to develop with strong commitments from both nations. Foreign Minister Sugiono stated that President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to France was to accept an invitation from French President Emmanuel Macron. According to Sugiono, Prabowo responded to Macron’s invitation which had been delayed previously due to scheduling conflicts. “This was Macron’s invitation which had been delayed. I believe in April, there was an expected visit, but the timing didn’t align then,” Sugiono said on Wednesday, 27 May 2026, according to a video statement. The Gerindra Party’s Secretary-General added that Macron subsequently reissued the invitation to Prabowo. Sugiono claimed Macron proposed a new date which was agreed upon. “During the two leaders’ meeting at that time, President Macron reissued the invitation and proposed the current date,” he said. Sugiono stated that Prabowo’s visit to France was made considering the invitation had been extended twice. He said the state visit was a reciprocal trip following Macron’s visit to Indonesia. “Since it was the second invitation, President Prabowo accepted and attended in Paris,” he added.
