Prabowo Discusses Synergy in Cooperation: Russia Has Wheat, Indonesia Has Coffee

President Prabowo Subiando has stated that Indonesia and Russia possess economies that are mutually complementary. According to him, the differences in resources and economic strengths between the two nations serve as capital to enhance cooperation.

Prabowo made these remarks during his speech at the 11th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in Vladivostok, Russia, on Thursday (3/9/2026).

“The economies of Indonesia and Russia are not mirror images of one another. I believe that is precisely why both are well-suited for cooperation,” said Prabowo.

Prabowo noted that Russia possesses wheat, fertiliser, energy, science, and advanced engineering. On the other hand, Indonesia possesses several leading commodities and serves as a gateway to the ASEAN market.

“Russia has wheat, fertiliser, energy, science, and advanced engineering. Indonesia has palm oil, fisheries, coffee, rubber, textiles, furniture, consumer goods, and a young workforce, as well as a gateway to the 680 million people of ASEAN,” he said.

According to Prabowo, the economic strengths of each country can address the needs of the other. This serves as the foundation for building fair and sustainable trade.

“The results are already visible. Last year, in 2025, our bilateral trade approached 5 billion US dollars. This is an increase of 21.7% compared to the previous year, 2024, and an increase of 33.7% compared to 2023,” he stated.

“This achievement is only the beginning; it is not the upper limit. In this forum, I propose that Indonesia and Russia set clear challenges for ourselves: to double our trade within the first review period of the Indonesia-Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement,” Prabowo continued.
