Prabowo Discusses Lebaran and Geopolitics at Iftar
President Prabowo Subianto used the moment of breaking the fast with a number of leaders from Islamic organisations to discuss current issues, ranging from the readiness of society for the Lebaran holiday to developments in global geopolitics. The meeting took place at Istana Merdeka, Jakarta, on Thursday night, 5 March 2026. The atmosphere was warm, with attendance by several national Islamic figures, including Rais Aam PBNU KH Miftachul Achyar, Chairman of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nasir, and Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council Anwar Iskandar.
Secretary to the Cabinet Teddy Indra Wijaya said the meeting was held as a breaking-the-fast gathering and also served as a forum for dialogue between the president and leaders of religious organisations. “On this night, Thursday, 5 March 2026, President Prabowo Subianto broke fast with Rais Aam PBNU KH Miftachul Achyar, Chairman of Muhammadiyah Prof. Haedar Nasir, and Chairman of MUI KH Anwar Iskandar at Istana Merdeka, Jakarta,” Teddy said in a written statement. “According to Teddy, the conversations at the gathering were not solely about Ramadan. The president and the religious leaders also touched on several issues currently drawing attention, including the readiness of society for Lebaran holidays.” Then: “While breaking the fast, President Prabowo discussed preparations for Lebaran holidays in the country, while also discussing the dynamics of world geopolitics,” Teddy added.
“Dialogue between the government and religious leadership is often held on various occasions, especially during religious periods such as Ramadan. Beyond strengthening ties, the forum is also a space for exchanging views on social situations and developments globally that could affect the community.”
