Prabowo discusses Gulf escalation at Ramadan iftar with Indonesia's largest Islamic organisations
Jakarta (ANTARA) — On the evening of Thursday, 5 March 2026, President Prabowo Subianto used the moment of breaking fast with religious leaders to discuss the latest geopolitical dynamics, including escalations in Gulf states and the Middle East.
In a corner of the Istana Merdeka room, Jakarta, Prabowo broke fast with Rais Aam PBNU KH Miftachul Akhyar, General Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah Prof. Haedar Nashir, and General Chairman of the Majelis Ulama Indonesia KH Anwar Iskandar.
Seskab Teddy Indra Wijaya, when contacted in Jakarta on Thursday evening, said that during the gathering, as takjil and kurma were being enjoyed, Prabowo discussed global geopolitical dynamics and the government’s preparations ahead of the Lebaran holidays.
“On the evening of Thursday, 5 March 2026, President Prabowo Subianto broke fast with Rais Aam PBNU KH Miftachul Akhyar, Muhammadiyah General Chairman Prof. Haedar Nashir, and MUI General Chairman KH Anwar Iskandar at Istana Merdeka, Jakarta. While breaking fast, the President conversed and discussed preparations for Lebaran in the country, as well as the dynamics of world geopolitics,” said Seskab Teddy.
In the moment of breaking fast with those present, who were shared first by the official social media account of President Prabowo, @prabowo, Prabowo sat with Muhammadiyah General Chairman Prof. Haedar Nashir on his right, followed by MUI General Chairman KH Anwar on his left, while Rais Aam PBNU KH Miftachul Akhyar sat opposite the President.

After breaking fast, the gathering continued with Maghrib prayers, and Prabowo, along with Rais Aam PBNU, Muhammadiyah General Chairman, and MUI General Chairman, moved to the central courtyard of the Presidential Palace to meet with kiais and representatives of Islamic organisations.
During the silaturahmi there, several Red-and-White Cabinet ministers attended, including Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs Muhaimin Iskandar, Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf, and Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar.
The silaturahmi with the ulama in the central courtyard of the Istana began at about 7.00 pm WIB.
