Prabowo Discusses Geopolitics with Islamic Organisations
President Prabowo Subianto invited hundreds of leaders of Islamic organisations to the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, 5 March 2026. The event ran from the afternoon until late at night, beginning with a breaking fast together followed by discussions on Indonesia’s government’s stance on a range of current issues.
Coordinator of Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan, who attended the event, said Prabowo discussed national and international politics with the Islamic leaders. ‘The meeting touched on developments in geopolitics, domestic, with the gist being: let us preserve unity,’ he said after the event at the Palace.
In today’s event, President Prabowo broke the fast with three senior leaders of Islamic organisations. They were Rais Aam of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama or PBNU Miftachul Achyar, the General Chairman of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir, and the General Chairman of the Indonesian Ulama Council Anwar Iskandar. The discussion with other participants was held after the breaking of the fast.
According to Zulkifli, Prabowo gave a briefing to participants from 8:00 pm WIB. The briefing covered various issues, including the escalation of the war between the United States and Israel against Iran, and lasted until 11:00 pm WIB. ‘Three hours of briefings,’ he said.
Prabowo, he said, told that the Indonesian nation must be able to maintain unity in the face of a difficult situation. ‘To safeguard and protect our homeland and people in such difficult times, once again the President explained the importance of unity and togetherness,’ he added.
Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning Nusron Wahid, who also listened to the briefing, said the President explained at least two things to the attendees. First, he said, about geopolitics and the global economy, including the situation in Palestine and the impact of the US–Israel attack on Iran.
Second, Nusron said, Prabowo also explained the current conditions of Indonesia’s economy and social conditions. ‘From the meeting, the ulama and leaders of Islamic organisations agreed to establish intensive communications, and to understand the government’s stance as taken by the President,’ Nusron said.
A number of figures from various Islamic community organisations were invited to attend the breaking of the fast with Prabowo. Among those present were Yahya Cholil Staquf, the General Chairman of Nahdlatul Ulama, and Hanif Alatas, Secretary of the Majelis Syura of the Front Pembela Islam (FPI).
Other invitees were seen arriving at the Palace in the afternoon. Among them were administrators of pesantrens and renowned preachers.
