President Prabowo Subianto has disbursed Rp200 billion in social assistance to support the handling of the earthquake disaster in East Nusa Tenggara Province. The Rp200 billion in aid consists of Rp40 billion for the NTT Provincial Government and Rp20 billion each for eight affected districts on Flores Island. The eight districts are West Manggarai, Manggarai, East Manggarai, Ende, Ngada, Nagekeo, Sikka, and East Flores.

The Head of State emphasised that the assistance must be used appropriately to support disaster management and help affected communities. During the meeting, the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency, Lieutenant General Suharyanto, confirmed that the Rp20 billion in aid for each district had been received by the regional governments.

“Fortunately, the President provided the Rp20 billion in assistance, which has greatly helped the regional governments,” Suharyanto said during the earthquake disaster management meeting at the Earthquake Handling Post at Infantry Battalion 834/WM, Nagekeo Regency, NTT, on Wednesday, 26 August 2026.

Suharyanto also stated that all assistance had been received and conveyed to the regents, with instructions that it be used exclusively for disaster management needs. “It has arrived, and we have also informed the regents that the assistance may not be used for anything other than disaster management,” he said.

On the same occasion, NTT Governor Emanuel Melkiades Laka Lena expressed appreciation for the assistance provided by President Prabowo. According to him, the support has greatly helped regional governments strengthen their response and provide aid to displaced persons.

“Thank you, Mr President, for the assistance. All districts on Flores Island received Rp20 billion and the province received Rp40 billion. This greatly helps us to mobilise more effectively so that we can assist the displaced persons,” Melkiades said.

Furthermore, President Prabowo stressed that regional governments should essentially maintain reserve granaries to deal with emergencies. However, if this has not yet been implemented optimally, the central government will help facilitate their establishment.

“This means we will help each province so that governors have warehouses and food supplies, as should the regents. In fact, this is how it should be. Regents and governors should already have reserve granaries, but if they have not yet taken the initiative, we will do it,” Prabowo said.
