Prabowo Disappointed Over Misuse of Seed Budget: This is a Sin Against Humanity
President Prabowo Subianto regrets the suspected misuse of the agricultural seed procurement budget, which should be used to enhance the quality of national food production. According to him, the government has allocated a substantial budget to ensure that farmers obtain superior seeds. However, based on monitoring conducted with Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman, indications were found of the use of low-quality seeds. “I am sometimes saddened. I monitor, the Agriculture Minister goes around, the money we have already allocated and poured out for good seeds, perhaps the officials thought it would not be checked, [they] sought bad seeds. This is a sin against humanity,” said Prabowo in a speech at the handover of state financial recovery results at the Attorney General’s Office, Jakarta, on Wednesday. Prabowo views such actions not merely as administrative violations, but as a moral issue that directly impacts the welfare of farmers and national food security. Because, Prabowo said, the use of low-quality seeds will reduce harvest yields, making it difficult for the government’s goal of improving the welfare of the agricultural community to be achieved. “If the seeds are not good, the crop yields are not good. How can we prosper,” Prabowo emphasised. He stressed that the government will not hesitate to take firm steps to enforce discipline and ensure that state funds are truly used according to their purpose. “So indeed, in such conditions, if we want to uphold the truth, sometimes we must be tough, tough in enforcing discipline,” the President emphasised.
