Prabowo Directs KUR and Cooperatives to Help Farmers Open Land Safely
President Prabowo Subianto has emphasised that regional governments must firmly prohibit land clearing by burning.
This was stressed by President Prabowo during a meeting on forest and land fire (Karhutla) disaster management at the AJU Command Post in Riau Province on Monday (24/8/2026).
Prabowo asked the public to report if they wish to open land. He also urged regional governments to issue warnings to their communities not to burn land.
“Burning land is strictly prohibited. If they need to open land, they must report it. The village head, sub-district head, regent, and regional government will then assist them,” said Prabowo.
This assistance, Prabowo said, is expected to be organised through farmer groups. The costs could be covered through the People’s Business Credit (KUR) or village cooperatives. However, Prabowo cautioned that land clearing by farmers must not be influenced by large corporations.
“Do not let them go rogue. Police and prosecutors, please investigate. Intelligence agencies, investigate. If there are indications, report immediately. We will revoke it immediately!” he asserted.
