Prabowo Departs for Russia to Attend EEF as Putin's Key Guest of Honour
President Prabowo Subianto has departed for Vladivostok, Russia, to attend the 11th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) as the primary guest of honour at the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU). President Prabowo received a special invitation from Russian President Vladimir Putin.
President Prabowo, accompanied by a limited delegation, took off from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta, on Tuesday (1/9/2026) at 23:20 WIB. Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that Prabowo’s presence as the main guest of honour reflects the close relationship between Indonesia and Russia. It also demonstrates Indonesia’s increasing strategic position within the Asia-Pacific region and the world.
“President Putin specifically invited President Prabowo as the guest of honour for the EEF. This reflects the close relationship between Indonesia and Russia, which continues to be built and strengthened through direct diplomacy between both leaders,” Teddy said in his statement.
This is Prabowo’s second appearance at an EEF-related forum following his attendance at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) last year.
“This is the second time President Prabeway has been trusted as a guest of honour in an international economic forum organised by Russia, after attending the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) last year,” he continued.
Teddy noted that Russia views Indonesia as one of its important and strategic partners in the Asia-Pacific region. Indonesia is also regarded as a significant ASEAN member, representing the Global South and the Muslim world.
“Russia views Indonesia as a key strategic partner in the Asia-Pacific, a respected ASEAN member, and an important nation representing the Global South and the Muslim world. This demonstrates Indonesia’s strategic position in global affairs,” he said.
Teddy added that Prabowo’s presence in Vladivostok will be utilised to promote increasingly concrete and mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Russia, particularly in the fields of economy, trade, investment, energy, and other strategic sectors.
“Indonesia’s foreign policy remains free and active. President Prabowo is building good relations with all nations, expanding friendships, while ensuring that Indonesian diplomacy yields concrete benefits for national interests and the welfare of the people,” remarked Teddy.
Also participating in the flight to Vladivostok were Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Foreign Minister Sugiono, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto, Minister of Investment and Downstreaming Rosan Roeslani, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
The departure of Prabowo was attended by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Minister of Housing and Residential Areas Maruarar Sirait, Commander of the TNI General Agus Subiyanto, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and Head of the State Intelligence Agency Muhammad Herindra.
