Prabowo Departs for Russia to Attend 11th Eastern Economic Forum
President Prabowo Subianto officially departed for Vladivostok, Russia, on Tuesday (1/9) evening via Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta. The departure aims to attend the 11th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), scheduled to take place from 1–4 September 2026.
The presidential aircraft took off precisely at 23:20 WIB. President Prabowo’s presence at the international economic forum, held at Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU), follows a special invitation from Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, who accompanied the delegation, explained that President Prabobu is attending as the main guest of honour. This serves as a marker of the close diplomatic ties between Jakarta and Moscow.
“President Putin specifically invited President Prabowo as the primary guest of honour for the EEF. This reflects the close relationship between Indonesia and Russia, which continues to be built and strengthened through direct diplomacy between both leaders,” said Cabinet Secretary Teddy in Jakarta.
This marks the second time Prabowo has been trusted as a guest of honour at a major economic forum in Russia, after previously attending the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) last year.
According to Teddy, Russia views Indonesia as a strategic partner in the Asia-Pacific region. Indonesia is considered to hold a central role as an ASEAN member, as well as an important representation of the Global South and the Muslim world.
During this visit, President Prabowo is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with President Putin. The primary focus of the discussions includes strengthening cooperation across various strategic sectors, ranging from economy, trade, and investment to energy.
“Indonesia’s foreign policy remains free and active. The President is building good relations with all nations to ensure that Indonesian diplomacy yields concrete benefits for national interests,” Teddy added.
The President’s departure was accompanied by several cabinet ministers and saw a send-off by high-ranking state officials at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base.
The series of activities in Vladivostok is expected to reinforce Indonesia’s position in global affairs while securing commitments for investment and economic cooperation that will benefit the Indonesian people.
