Prabowo Demands Thorough Investigation of Acid Attack on Andrie Yunus to Uncover Intellectual Actors

President Prabowo Subianto has emphasised that the acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus constitutes an act of terrorism. “This is terrorism, isn’t it? A barbaric act. We must pursue it, we must investigate it,” said Prabowo, as quoted from a video of his discussion with journalists and observers on Thursday, 19 March 2026. Therefore, Prabowo urged that the case be thoroughly investigated down to the intellectual actors, and it must not stop merely at the field perpetrators. He stressed that law enforcement must trace those who ordered and funded the action. “Who ordered it, who paid for it,” he stated. Regarding the possibility of state apparatus involvement, Prabowo affirmed that he would not provide protection to the perpetrators, even if they come from official institutions. “Of course, I guarantee it. But conversely, if these are provocateurs not from the government, not from the apparatus, they must clearly be investigated,” said the President. In addition, Prabowo also guaranteed that the government will not tolerate such acts of violence. He reiterated that this case must be investigated to its main actors. As for the timeframe for the investigation, Prabowo left the legal process to the law enforcement authorities. Besides the National Police, Prabowo also emphasised that other law enforcement agencies must work professionally. “I am a realistic and fair person. In terms of capacity, let them work. But not just the National Police, many other institutions must also work,” he said. Regarding the possibility of forming an independent team to investigate the case, Prabowo said he is open to it as long as the independent team that works is truly neutral. “We can consider it. As long as it’s independent, not all NGOs that are already prejudiced against the government and receive funding from abroad,” he stated.
