Prabowo Demands Ride-Hailing App Commissions Below 10%: If Unwilling, Don't Do Business in Indonesia
Jakarta – President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto has requested that fees deducted by online motorcycle taxi (ojol) companies or app operators be below 10 per cent.
The Head of State expressed disagreement with deduction fees reaching 20 per cent. Prabowo deemed such deductions unfair because online motorcycle taxi drivers work hard in the field.
This was stated by Prabowo at the International Labour Day or May Day 2026 commemoration event at the National Monument (Monas) on Friday, 1 May 2026.
“Ojol drivers work hard, risking their lives every day. Ojol app companies demand a 20 per cent deposit. How can ojol drivers agree to 20 per cent? What about 15 per cent? How much?? 10 per cent, you’re asking for 10 per cent? I say here that I do not agree with 10 per cent,” Prabowo emphasised.
“It must be below 10 per cent. It’s too easy; you sweat, but they get the money—sorry about that. If you don’t want to follow, then don’t do business in Indonesia,” Prabowo continued.
Accordingly, Prabowo officially signed Presidential Regulation No. 27 of 2026 on the Protection of Online Transport Workers. The regulation requires app operators to provide work accident guarantees, such as BPJS Health and health insurance.
“I have also signed presidential regulation number 27 of 2026 on the protection of online transport workers. What I mentioned earlier must be given work accident guarantees, BPJS health will be provided, health insurance,” said Prabowo.
Not only that, online transport or motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers will receive 92 per cent commission from app operators. Because, according to Prabowo, ojol drivers previously only received 80 per cent revenue sharing from app operators.
“Revenue sharing from 80 per cent for drivers, now at least becoming 92 per cent for drivers,” said Prabowo.
The Head of State also claimed to have raised the minimum wage for workers up to holiday bonuses.
“For drivers and couriers, we are fulfilling; we are expanding job opportunities for disabled workers. We are giving a 50 per cent discount on work accident insurance contributions and death benefits for workers, not wage recipients,” he stated.
