Prabowo Demands Reduction in Super Micro Credit Interest Rates, Danantara Promises 8%
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Danantara BPI CEO Rosan P. Roeslani promised President Prabowo Subianto to reduce the rates to below 9%, specifically to 8%.
Rosan conveyed this to Prabowo during the ceremony for the handover of administrative fines and forest area land at the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic of Indonesia, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (13/5/2026).
Prabowo was furious upon learning that PNM Mekaar debtors with loans ranging from Rp 2 million to Rp 10 million are charged interest rates of up to 24%, when they should be below 10%. These PNM Mekaar interest rates are widely used by micro and small businesses.
He deemed this treatment unfair, as large entrepreneurs can borrow from banks at 10% interest. Therefore, he gathered the ministers and gave a special task to the Finance Minister and Danantara’s CEO.
“How much, Mr Rosan, 9%? Rich people get 9%, poor people 24%. Is this a Pancasila state? I don’t understand. I gathered the ministers. I instructed the Finance Minister and Danantara that this is a political decision. I decided that for community capitalisation, family credit for the pre-prosperous, from 24% we must lower it to below 10%, must be below 9%,” Prabowo emphasised.
“It must be below 9%. Can Danantara do it?” Prabowo asked Rosan, who was present at the ceremony.
The Danantara CEO agreed to 8%. Prabowo then asked back: “What percentage? 8%? You deliberately chose 8, why not 7%? Alright, anyway, it must be below 9%.”
Prabowo felt it unacceptable that less fortunate people pay higher interest than the rich. Prabowo does not want to see such unfair practices that are not in line with the 1945 Constitution and Pancasila values.
