President Prabowo Subianto deliberately sought time to deliver a live speech outlining the macro-economic framework (KEM) and the main fiscal policy guidelines (PPKF) for the 2027 draft state budget (RAPBN 2027) in the plenary session of the DPR. In the face of uncertain geopolitics, Prabowo said he felt the need to directly set out the country’s economic condition.

This was conveyed by Prabowo as he opened his remarks at the plenary session at the Parliament complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (20 May 2026). He first expressed gratitude to the leaders of MPR/DPR/DPD for convening the plenary session, which coincided with National Awakening Day.

“On this good occasion I would like to express my highest gratitude to the leaders and members of the DPR/MPR and DPD RI for organising this plenary session attended by members of DPR/MPR and DPD RI, which coincides with our National Awakening Day,” Prabowo said.

Prabowo then explained that he deliberately requested time to attend in person. He will elaborate on Indonesia’s economic condition amid global challenges.

“I deliberately ask for time to stand before you all, to personally set out the direction of our economy and fiscal policy, as an introductory discussion in the preparation of the draft state budget for 2027 (APBN 2027),” he said.

According to him, the geopolitically challenging conditions at present affect the domestic economy. Therefore, Prabowo felt the need to present directly the macro-economic framework and the main fiscal policy guidelines.

“Leaders and all respected members of the Council, we now as a nation face geopolitics and geo-economics full of conflict, tension and uncertainty; wars are taking place in many places, even in Europe and in the Middle East, in a region that, although far from us, has a very large impact and influence on life,” he said.

“Therefore, because of the conditions we face, I believe the President of the Republic of Indonesia should be present in person to convey the key ideas on our economy and the management of the state,” he added.
