Prabowo Declares Strong Commitment to the Poor

President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto has said his commitment to the poor is very great.

“Our commitment to the poor is extraordinary,” Prabowo said during his address at the Plenary Cabinet Session at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Monday afternoon (20/7).

Prabowo stated that his government places great importance on alleviating poverty in Indonesia.

He outlined a number of his flagship programmes aimed at tackling poverty.

First, people’s schools under the Ministry of Social Affairs, intended for children from the poorest deciles.

“The total received is Rp4 million per month, KIP for 1.2 million students, assisted with living costs of Rp800,000 to Rp1.4 million per month, and exempted from tuition fees,” he said.

In addition, Prabowo said his government also runs a staple food card programme providing assistance of Rp200,000 per month, with the number of beneficiaries reaching around 18 million families.

“National health social security covers 96,800 million people, nearly 100 million. That is 20 times larger than Singapore’s and 3.5 times larger than Malaysia’s in terms of the guarantee we provide,” he said.
