President Prabowo Subianto has described the global crises and uncertainties facing the world as a blessing in disguise, expressing confidence that Indonesia will emerge stronger from the current turbulent period.

The head of state made these remarks at a thanksgiving ceremony for the anniversary of the Danantara Investment Management Agency held at Wisma Danantara in Jakarta. For Prabowo, crises compel Indonesia to accelerate government programmes and initiatives.

“This crisis, in my view, is a blessing in disguise. Certainly it is full of difficulties and challenges. But it forces us to accelerate our good intentions,” Prabowo said on Wednesday evening, 11 March 2026.

Prabowo stated that crises always generate opportunities. Whilst a crisis is a test, it is also a stepping stone. “The strong will survive, the weak will continue to suffer. This is a lesson from history,” he said.

The chairman of the Gerindra Party expressed confidence that the Indonesian nation has been blessed with extraordinary natural wealth and is capable of emerging from the crisis. He said the crisis drives Indonesia to accelerate food self-sufficiency and energy self-sufficiency.

Prabowo claimed that Indonesia’s food self-sufficiency plan has been partially achieved, with Indonesia reportedly now able to meet domestic rice demand without imports.

Meanwhile, energy self-sufficiency is targeted to be achieved within the next four years. Prabowo stated that he would pursue the electrification of Indonesia’s regions.

He emphasised that the global crisis forces Indonesia to accelerate. He said Indonesia has many alternatives, and therefore he is confident the nation can overcome existing challenges.

“We have vast amounts of palm oil. We will have sufficient cassava. We can obtain fuel from maize and sugarcane. Friends, we have very large geothermal reserves—the second-largest reserves in the world if I am not mistaken—which have not been fully exploited,” he said.
