Prabowo Consults with Putin on Global Geopolitics, Praises Russia's Role
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto revealed that one of his objectives in meeting President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin was to consult due to the very rapid developments and changes in the global geopolitical situation.
Prabowo conveyed this during a dialogue with Putin at the Kremlin Palace, Moscow, on Monday (13/4/2026). Accompanying Prabowo were the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, Foreign Minister Sugiono, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. Putin was accompanied by, among others, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
“We view that Russia has played a very positive role in facing this geopolitical situation full of uncertainties,” Prabowo stated.
“Therefore, we feel it is very necessary to consult on how we face the future situation and, in particular, if possible, continue to strengthen cooperation especially in the economic and energy sectors,” he continued.
Prabowo then once again expressed his thanks for being received by Putin. Prabowo also extended congratulations as Russia commemorates Easter and Cosmonaut Day on 12 April.
“That also has a very great influence in the world,” he said.
“Many Indonesians name their children Gagarin, name them Yuri,” he added with a laugh.
