President Prabowo Subianto is considering the formation of an independent team regarding the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus, Vice Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras).

“We can consider it, as long as it’s independent. Not all NGOs that are already prejudiced against the government and receive money from abroad, right,” said Prabowo during a discussion with several journalists and experts aired on Thursday (19/3/2026), quoted from Kompas TV.

“Of course, this is terrorism, right? A barbaric act, we must pursue it, we must investigate it, who ordered it, who paid for it,” he stated.

Prabowo guaranteed no impunity for law enforcement apparatus involved in the terror act.

“I guarantee it, but conversely, if this is a provocateur not from the government, not from the apparatus, of course we must investigate it,” he said.

Prabowo emphasised that he would protect Indonesian citizens and would not allow such terror incidents to occur. “Believe me, I was elected by the people to defend the people, but we must be vigilant, I ask for a proper investigation, until the actors,” he asserted firmly.

As a result of the attack, Andrie suffered burns on several parts of his body, including his eyes, face, chest, and hands. Currently, the case is being investigated by both Polri and TNI.

“The four suspected perpetrators are from Denma Bais TNI,” said TNI Danpuspom Major General Yusri Nuryanto during a press conference at TNI Headquarters, Jakarta, on Wednesday (18/3/2026).

Regarding this case involving TNI members, the Civil Society Coalition for Security Sector Reform urged the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) and the Indonesian Government to form an independent fact-finding team.

“Komnas HAM must immediately conduct an investigation to assess the possibility of serious human rights violations,” as quoted from the official statement received by Kompas.com on Wednesday.

An independent investigation by Komnas HAM is needed because this pouring incident is suspected to have been carried out in a structured and systematic manner.

Komnas HAM must immediately conduct an investigation to assess the possibility of serious human rights violations. The Coalition believes that findings from law enforcement apparatus such as Polri and TNI need to be re-examined by Komnas HAM.

The Coalition also urged that facts presented by the police and TNI need to be verified for certainty through an independent institution, in this case Komnas HAM.

“For that purpose, we urge the President to form a joint fact-finding team,” the Coalition continued.
