Prabowo confirms mutually beneficial trade agreement with Trump
The two leaders focused on long-standing negotiations regarding reciprocal tariffs during a thirty minute session in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, February 19.
"Negotiations have been going on for quite a while. We finally reached a point of mutual benefit and mutual respect. I think it is a good outcome," Prabowo told reporters in Washington, D.C. on Saturday morning.
The President noted that Indonesia has been involved in one of the longest-running trade and tariff negotiations with the US. However, he emphasized that the meeting yielded positive results.
Indonesia was also the only member of the Board of Peace (BoP) to hold a bilateral meeting with President Trump on the sidelines of the board's first meeting on Thursday (February 19).
Prabowo underlined that the core of the discussion remained the effort to reach a fair and mutually beneficial trade agreement for both Indonesia and the US.
Earlier, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that President Prabowo Subianto was the only head of state to hold a bilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump during the BoP summit in Washington, D.C., on Thursday.
He explained that a trade agreement between Indonesia and the US was signed during the meeting. Under the new deal, both nations agreed to a reciprocal tariff of 19 percent for imports from Indonesia.
Indonesia and the US have also agreed on a $38.4 billion trade and investment commitment in various sectors. The deals were formalized at the 2026 US-Indonesia Business Summit in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday (February 18).
