Prabowo Confident Indonesia Will No Longer Need to Import Fuel Under This Programme
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — President Prabowo Subianto believes Indonesia will not need to import fuel in the future, as the country has alternative sources that can be used as feedstock for fuel blends.
Prabowo said that global turmoil had driven up crude oil prices, but Indonesia remained resilient because it had abundant supplies of other energy sources.
“We still have plenty of coal and geothermal energy, and in particular we can make diesel fuel from plants. Biodiesel will be of great help to us. We have already reached B50 and will strive for E50,” Prabowo said at a plenary Cabinet meeting at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday (21 October 2026).
Prabowo said that this year his government was working to produce E10, or a 10 per cent blend of biofuel with conventional fuel.
“Perhaps in another two years, E20, and two years after that we will reach E50. When we have E50 and B50, we will no longer need to import fuel from abroad,” Prabowo said.
