Prabowo Confident Indonesia Will Be Respected by Other Nations, Calls for Upholding Pancasila

President Prabowo Subianto expressed confidence that Indonesia would be respected by other nations. He stated that Indonesia must have the courage to make decisions in the public interest. ‘A great nation must be courageous; we must have the courage to make correct decisions even when difficult, and defend our people. We must not pass on short-term ease at the expense of our children and grandchildren’s future,’ Prabowo said on Monday, 1 June 2026. He made the remarks while presiding over the Pancasila Anniversary Ceremony at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Pancasila Building in Jakarta. He stated that no nation can be independent without prosperity and self-reliance. Prabowo said Indonesia must not become a nation dependent on others. ‘Indeed, no other nation will feel sorry for us. Many parties and countries claim Indonesia cannot remain united, cannot survive due to too many differences, ethnic groups, regional languages, and customs,’ he said. However, these external views have been refuted as Indonesia remains steadfast. He stressed that Indonesia must persistently uphold and implement Pancasila’s values. ‘And I am confident that when Pancasila is genuinely applied in politics, law, social, culture, and especially the economy, Indonesia will not only become a developed and prosperous nation but also a respected one due to its people’s welfare,’ he said. ‘A strong nation through unity, a prosperous one through justice, a great one through humanity, a nation capable of contributing to global peace, one that does not beg for aid but can assist others,’ he added. Prabowo urged all parties to implement Pancasila. He also called on all government stakeholders to reflect on Indonesia’s condition during the 2026 Pancasila Anniversary. He noted that while Indonesia’s economy has grown over recent decades, the benefits have not been evenly or fairly distributed among the populace. ‘Let us implement Pancasila and realise an Indonesia that is just, prosperous, sovereign, and dignified,’ he concluded.
