President Prabowo Subianto expressed confidence that Indonesia will achieve energy self-sufficiency within four years.

His confidence stems from Indonesia’s recent achievement of rice self-sufficiency as part of the nation’s broader food independence goals.

“We already have a food self-sufficiency plan. Alhamdulillah, it has been partially achieved. We have an energy self-sufficiency plan, and I am confident we will achieve it within four years,” Prabowo stated during his remarks at the first anniversary celebration of Danantara Indonesia in Jakarta on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.

According to Prabowo, renewable energy potential including geothermal and solar energy will also be maximised to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

“We have abundant palm oil. We have sufficient cassava. We can obtain fuel from maize and sugar cane. We have geothermal energy, the world’s second largest, not yet fully exploited,” Prabowo said.

“We will carry out electrification. Renewable energy from solar power—in the shortest possible timeframe, we will build 100 GW of energy. This is my order, my decision. We will prove to the world that we are faster and more effective in this regard,” Prabowo added.

In addition, Prabowo conveyed that ongoing geopolitical conflicts are causing uncertainty with the potential to trigger crises.

“Crisis is a test, a stepping stone. The strong will survive, the weak will continue to suffer. This is a lesson from history. I believe the Indonesian nation has been given extraordinary natural wealth and we are capable of emerging from this crisis,” Prabowo stated.

“We will emerge from this crisis stronger. In my view, this crisis is a blessing in disguise. It is indeed full of challenges, but it compels us to accelerate our good intentions,” he added with confidence.
