JAKARTA — President Prabowo Subianto expressed confidence that Indonesia can influence the Board of Peace (BoP) established by US President Donald Trump to advance Palestinian independence through a two-state solution.

“If we are part of it (the BoP), we can still influence and work towards a long-term solution, which in our view is an independent Palestine through a two-state solution,” Prabowo stated, according to a press release from the Government Communications Agency on Monday, 16 March 2026.

Nevertheless, Prabowo noted that all discussions regarding the BoP, including Indonesia’s plans to deploy peacekeeping forces to Gaza, have been suspended due to escalating conflict in the Middle East.

According to him, this conflict has created uncertainty and turmoil for all nations worldwide. Prabowo called on all parties to be willing to engage in dialogue to end the conflict.

“My recommendation is always to seek peaceful options,” Prabowo said.

Furthermore, Prabowo reiterated that Indonesia will not join any military alliance. “We cannot be part of any military alliance. Indonesia stands on its own feet and does not depend on the power of other nations. Therefore, Indonesia must also build strong defence capabilities. When something happens, we cannot depend on anyone,” Prabowo stated.

Prabowo affirmed that Indonesia maintains good relations with all neighbouring countries and adopts a defensive military posture.
