Prabowo: Confident in Indonesia's Strong Economy and Fundamentals

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that Indonesia is a country with strong economic fundamentals.
He affirmed that all leaders in Indonesia, including chairmen of political parties, must work for the people.
“Believe that our economy is strong, our fundamentals are strong. Let others say what they want; Indonesia is strong. Believe in our strength, believe in our people,” Prabowo stated during the inauguration of the Merah Putih Village/Urban Cooperative (KDKMP) in Nganjuk, East Java, Saturday (16/5/2026), as quoted from the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube broadcast.
According to him, as long as Finance Minister Purbaya can still smile, the Indonesian people need not worry.
“As long as Purbaya can smile, rest assured, there is no need to worry, even if the dollar reaches thousands. You in the villages don’t use dollars; it’s those who like to go abroad who are concerned,” Prabowo said.
This was conveyed during the inauguration of the Marsinah Museum in Nganjuk, East Java, Saturday (16/5/2026).
Prabowo explained that people in villages do not use US dollars much.
“I am sure there are always some who don’t understand. They keep saying Indonesia will collapse, will be chaotic, and so on. The Rupiah is like this, the dollar is like that, but the people in the villages don’t use dollars,” Prabowo said.
“Food security is secure, energy security is secure. Many countries are panicking, but Indonesia is still doing well,” Prabowo added.
