President Prabowo Subianto alluded to the official vehicle of a regional head priced at Rp 8 billion. According to Prabowo, that amount is more expensive than the Maung vehicle he uses as president.

Prabowo stated that the Maung produced by PT Pindad, which he uses daily, has a market price of around Rp 700 million. “Because this is for the president, it has bulletproof features, so it might cost Rp 1 billion. But not Rp 8 billion,” Prabowo said in a statement released by the Presidential Secretariat on Thursday evening, 19 March 2026.

Prabowo shared this story during a question-and-answer session in Hambalang, Bogor, West Java, which took place from Wednesday evening until Thursday early morning. In that interview, Prabowo answered questions from several journalists and experts he invited to his residence.

Prabowo also highlighted the inefficient spending patterns in regional governments. For example, he said, budgets for official facilities like service vehicles that are excessively expensive.

“Many officials, in my opinion, are inefficient. Let’s be open about it. There’s a regional government that buys a governor’s official vehicle for how much? Rp 8 billion,” said the Chairman of the Gerindra Party.

The budget for official facilities was previously in the spotlight after East Kalimantan Governor Rudy Mas’ud planned to purchase an official vehicle worth Rp 8.5 billion using the regional budget. Rudy cancelled the plan after hearing various criticisms from the East Kalimantan community.

“We affirm that this decision, Inshaallah, will not disrupt government performance; public service duties will continue optimally, and our focus remains on public welfare,” said Rudy Mas’ud via his Instagram account @h.rudymasud on Monday, 2 March 2026.

Rudy expressed an apology to the Indonesian public, especially East Kalimantan, over the controversy surrounding this official vehicle procurement. Rudy stated that his side would carry out all East Kalimantan provincial performance for the people.

“Constructive criticism, Inshaallah, will become energy for us to realise a successful East Kalimantan towards the golden generation,” said Rudy.

The Corruption Eradication Commission asked the public to continue monitoring and supervising government performance, especially in the goods and services procurement sector. According to KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo, that sector requires thorough planning according to needs up to the implementation of the budgeted requirements by each government.
