Prabowo Closes National Symposium, Receives Proposals from Academics

President Prabowo Subianto closed the National Symposium on Science, Technology, and Industry (KSTI) in Jakarta on Sunday, having received a number of proposals from rectors and scientists. “I have received the list of proposals and questions that were submitted, quite a lot. I promise, I will look into them one by one,” President Prabowo said at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC). He noted that he had been monitoring the symposium, which ran until Saturday evening, and observed that the exchange of views was positive. This aligns with the Head of State’s belief that all the nation’s potential must unite and discuss various ideas and initiatives to ensure Indonesia’s progress. Prabowo expressed appreciation for the input provided by the academics and scientists. “For example, a proposal for the allocation of doctoral scholarships for lecturers, both at public and private universities, and so on. This is a very good proposal, we will follow up on it,” he said. Another proposal involved support for research costs, including encouraging State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) to allocate a portion of their profits for research and innovation. The forum also put forward strategies for processing raw materials into finished products and cooperation with foreign institutions, as well as collaborating with universities involving various departments from different regions. The National Symposium took place from 26-28 June 2026, under the theme ‘Strategy for Economic Independence and Welfare of Indonesia’. The series of activities included symposiums and panel discussions on agriculture, energy, economy and finance, food security, marine and fisheries, downstream processing, and industry. The event was attended by approximately 2,600 rectors, lecturers, researchers, scientists, and university representatives along with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN).
