Prabowo Claims World Recognition for Indonesia's Self-Sufficiency in 8 Commodities

President Prabowo Subianto has stated that Indonesia’s self-sufficiency in eight commodities has been recognised by the world. He made the remarks during the MPR Annual Session and Joint Session of the DPR and DPD in commemoration of the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia at the Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Friday (14/8/2026). “This year we have achieved self-sufficiency in eight food commodities. We are self-sufficient in rice, self-sufficient in corn, self-sufficient in consumer sugar, chicken meat, chicken eggs, shallots, large chillies, and bird’s eye chillies,” he explained. Despite this, Prabowo acknowledged that Indonesia is not yet self-sufficient in beef. He committed to achieving this target within the next five to six years. Prabowo further elaborated that Indonesia is now beginning to work on energy self-sufficiency through diesel fuel self-sufficiency. “We have successfully produced diesel with B50 from palm oil,” he added. This has meant that Indonesia has no longer imported diesel from abroad since 1 July 2026. “And we have managed to save foreign exchange of Rp 170 trillion, around US$9.5 billion that we no longer have to send overseas,” he stated. He added that the promises of nutritious food, social assistance, and downstreaming are no longer just plans on paper. Everything is underway and the benefits are beginning to be felt by the people. “Once again, this is not a reason for us to be complacent. This is a stimulus for us to work even harder. Because we realise that independence is not just what we proclaim. Independence is what the people can feel,” he concluded.
