Prabowo Claims Streamlining 250 SOEs Saves State Rp 50 Trillion
President Prabowo Subianto has claimed that state funds have been saved up to Rp 50 trillion following the closure, merger, and consolidation of 250 state-owned enterprises (SOEs) by 31 July 2026. The Head of State made the statement during a briefing at a Plenary Cabinet Session at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday, 20 June 2026.
He stated that the efficiency stemmed from overhead costs that could be saved because the state no longer needed to pay the salaries of directors and commissioners, building rent and electricity, and other expenses for those 250 SOEs.
"When I became President, I was given a report that the number of SOEs was 1,077, and this needs to be checked again. There are SOEs that create subsidiaries, then they create sub-subsidiaries, and then they create sub-sub-subsidiaries, and I am grateful," said Prabowo.
On the occasion, he also expressed his pride in the leadership of Danantara. "I am proud of the Danantara leadership, in the first year, the first 18 months, they have managed to reduce that number. From 1,077, by the end of this month, 31 July, they have closed, consolidated, and merged, thus reducing 250 SOEs from 1,077."
Prabowo revealed that according to Danantara’s report, the routine costs of 250 SOEs could be saved, amounting to Rp 50 trillion. "Rp 50 trillion, directors’ salaries, commissioners’ salaries, building rent, electricity bills, transport costs, work meeting expenses, Rp 50 trillion," said Prabowo.
He then targeted that by the end of 2026, the number of remaining SOEs would be a maximum of 350 from the original 1,077 SOEs. "They (Danantara) have agreed," said Prabowo.
If realised, Prabowo is optimistic that the state funds that can be saved could approach Rp 70 trillion to Rp 80 trillion. "One of our achievements that will be remembered by history, I believe, for the first time in the history of the Indonesian nation, we have succeeded in building a sovereign wealth fund, which we call Danantara, a sovereign wealth fund," he said.
Danantara, said Prabowo, is an acronym for Daya Anagata Nusantara. "Daya means energy, Anagata means future, Nusantara is our homeland. So, Danantara is a sovereign wealth fund, where state savings and asset wealth are united, consolidated, and managed neatly, and this becomes a reserve, this becomes energy for Indonesia’s future, for our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren," he said.
