Economic relations between Indonesia and France have entered a new, closer phase. During President Prabowo Subianto’s state visit to Paris, Indonesia secured investment commitments and commercial agreements worth $3.5 billion, approximately Rp62.4 trillion.

The France–Indonesia High Level Business Council (FI-HLBC) was launched with direct attendance by President Prabowo Subianto and French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday, 28 May 2026. The council’s formation is seen as a strategic step to strengthen bilateral economic ties and expand future investment and trade opportunities.

Minister of Investment and Downstreaming and BKPM Head Rosan Roeslani noted that French business enthusiasm towards Indonesia continues to grow. “French business confidence in Indonesia continues to rise. The agreements reached show that Indonesia is seen as a strategic partner with strong long-term growth prospects and an increasingly competitive investment climate,” Rosan said in a statement on Saturday, 30 May 2026.

The business council brought together around 30 major company leaders from Indonesia and France. The companies involved have a combined market capitalisation of $1.3 trillion, reflecting the significant potential for cooperation between the two nations.

In addition to serving as a business dialogue platform, FI-HLBC is also expected to oversee the implementation of previously agreed investment deals between Indonesia and France.

Rosan explained that one of the council’s main focuses is ensuring all signed commitments proceed as planned and deliver tangible benefits for both countries. “Equally important is ensuring all commitments are realised. Therefore, this forum will serve as a platform to identify obstacles, expedite the resolution of challenges, and ensure investments proceed optimally,” he said.

Previously, during President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Indonesia in May 2025, the two countries signed 27 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) worth over $11 billion.

Moving forward, the Indonesia-France Business Council aims to triple bilateral trade value by 2035. This target will be supported through government collaboration, business actors, and business organisations from both countries.

“We are optimistic that Indonesia-France economic relations will strengthen further. Government and business collaboration is key to creating sustainable growth, generating jobs, and enhancing both countries’ competitiveness amid global economic dynamics,” Rosan said.
