Prabowo Claims Ride-Hailing Driver Incomes Triple Thanks to Government Policy
President Prabowo Subianto has stated that the income of online motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers has risen two to threefold following the establishment of a new revenue-sharing system between apps and ojol drivers.
The statement regarding the income increase for ojol drivers partnering with Grab, Gojek, and other apps was made by Prabowo during his State of the Union address at the DPR/MPR Building on Friday (14/8/2026).
“Brothers and sisters, I say the economic strength lies in MSMEs. We have also arranged a fairer distribution of results for ojol drivers and app operators. Previously, ojol drivers only received 85% of their work effort, because app operators asked for 20%. But with the government’s recommendation, I don’t want to call it intervention, but a recommendation, though actually it is somewhat intervention as well,” he said.
The President claimed that the change in the revenue-sharing system has had a significant direct impact on the income of ojol drivers.
“Drivers now receive 92 percent of their hard work, and many drivers report that their income has risen significantly, some have doubled, and some even say it has tripled,” said Prabowo.
Prabowo announced the change in the revenue-sharing system between apps and ojol drivers during the Labour Day celebration on 1 May 2026. Ojol drivers were previously entitled to receive a minimum of 20 percent of the online transport fare paid by users. The President ordered that the minimum commission for ojol drivers be increased to 92 percent.
The change in the revenue-sharing system took effect on 1 July 2026, and has been in force for approximately 1.5 months.
