Prabowo Claims Ride-Hailing Driver Incomes Triple After App Fee Cuts

President Prabowo Subianto has said the government has introduced rules to create a fairer distribution of earnings between online motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers and app companies.

Prabowo said that through the policy, the share of income received by drivers has increased from 80 percent to 92 percent.

“We have also arranged a fairer distribution of earnings for online motorcycle taxi drivers and app companies,” President Prabowo said in his speech at the 2026 MPR RI Annual Session and the Joint Session of the DPR-DPD RI at the MPR/DPR RI Building in Jakarta on Friday, 14 August 2026.

President Prabowo said the policy is part of the government’s effort to ensure ojol drivers receive a more decent share of the fruits of their labour.

According to the President, the change in the earnings split has also had an impact on increasing the income of a number of drivers.

The Head of State explained that previously ojol drivers only received around 80 percent of the proceeds of their work, while 20 percent went to the app companies.

After the government issued recommendations regarding the earnings split, the share received by drivers increased to 92 percent.

“Previously, ojol drivers only got 80 percent of the proceeds of their work because the app companies asked for 20 percent. But with the government’s recommendation — I don’t want to call it intervention, I use the term recommendation, but actually it is a bit of an intervention as well — drivers now get 92 percent of their hard work,” President Prabowo said.

President Prabowo stated that the policy has had a positive impact on driver welfare.

Prabowo said many drivers have reported an increase in income after the earnings split rule was implemented.

“Many drivers report that their income has risen significantly. Some have doubled, and some have even said it has tripled,” President Prabowo said.
