Prabowo Claims Many Doubted Indonesia's Ability to Achieve Food Self-Sufficiency

President Prabowo Subianto has once again emphasised the vital importance of food self-sufficiency. This was highlighted by Prabowo during a meeting with entrepreneurs from the central and regional Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Friday (31/07/2026).

According to the President, nation-building is a monumental endeavour in which the most crucial foundation is the economy. “The issue of food security is the most fundamental aspect of the economy. As you know, for decades, I have spoken about food security and the issue of hunger, because this is a lesson drawn from thousands of years of history,” Prabowo stated.

“Alhamdulillah, we have achieved food security and food self-sufficiency in a short period. This was unexpected by many, and even many still do not believe it until now. But, praise be to God,” he continued.

The Chairman of the Gerindra Party stated that food self-sufficiency is a tangible result. This achievement, Prabowo added, has also bolstered the government’s confidence.

“Whatever happens, we are confident that we can guarantee food for the Indonesian people. And this is not an easy achievement; it is not an easy feat,” said Prabowo. “It turns out that food self-sufficiency was something we only experienced a few decades ago. Now, we have achieved it.”
