Prabowo Claims Indonesia's Rise is Evident Through Fertiliser Supplies
President Prabowo Subianto is confident that Indonesia will soon rise as a powerful nation, asserting that the signs of this resurgence are already visible. “Our country is rich; we must secure that wealth for the greatest prosperity of the people. I am determined, I believe, and I am certain that in the not-too-distant future, we will rise,” Prabowo stated in East Java, as reported on Monday (18/5/2026).
Prabowo noted that one sign of Indonesia’s rising status is the nation’s ability to maintain food supply chains, ranging from fertiliser production to final agricultural products. He highlighted that as conflicts between Iran, the United States, and Israel disrupt global energy supply routes—specifically the Strait of Hormuz—many countries have begun approaching Indonesia to request supplies.
“It has now been proven that many countries are struggling and panicking because the war in the Middle East threatens the Strait of Hormuz. With 20% of the world’s oil passing through the Strait, fertiliser production is affected because much of it is derived from oil and gas,” he explained.
Regarding urea fertiliser, Prabowo mentioned receiving reports from the Minister of Agriculture that numerous countries are requesting supplies from Indonesia. “We are not euphoric, nor are we arrogant, but we are in a position where we can provide assistance,” he emphasised.
Prabowo identified Australia as one of the nations currently seeking fertiliser assistance, noting that Indonesia is prepared to export 500,000 tonnes of urea to Australia. Other countries requesting aid include the Philippines, India, Bangladesh, and Brazil. “My instruction is to help everyone. Many countries also want to buy rice from us; imagine if we were not self-sufficient, or if we did not move quickly to resolve our agricultural issues,” Prabowo concluded.
