Prabowo claims Indonesia self-sufficient in eight food commodities

President Prabowo Subianto has said Indonesia has achieved self-sufficiency in eight food commodities as part of strengthening the national food sector. Speaking at a plenary cabinet session at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday, the President said the achievement was marked by increased food production and national rice reserves. “I mentioned earlier, we are already self-sufficient in eight food commodities. Our rice reserves are the highest in the history of the Republic of Indonesia,” Prabowo said. The President also noted that farmer welfare is showing positive development, reflected in the farmers’ exchange rate reaching its highest level. Beyond the food sector, Prabowo said the government has developed B50 biodiesel based on palm oil, reducing dependence on imported diesel fuel. He said these achievements are the result of government policies to strengthen national food and energy security. However, the President did not detail the eight commodities in his published speech, and as of now there has been no official release from the Palace, the Ministry of Agriculture, or the National Food Agency listing them. Meanwhile, three commodities that are not yet self-sufficient and remain in deficit are soybeans, garlic, and beef/buffalo.
