Prabowo claims Indonesia self-sufficient in eight food commodities

President Prabowo Subianto said Indonesia has achieved self-sufficiency in eight food commodities as part of efforts to strengthen the national food sector.

At a plenary cabinet meeting at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday, the President said the achievement was marked by rising food production and national rice reserves.

“As I mentioned earlier, we are already self-sufficient in eight food commodities. Our rice reserves are the highest in the history of the Republic of Indonesia,” Prabowo said.

The President also said farmers’ welfare was showing positive development, reflected in the farmers’ terms of trade, which he said had reached their highest level.

Beyond the food sector, the President said the government has developed palm oil-based B50 fuel, thereby reducing dependence on imported diesel.

Prabowo said these achievements were the result of government policies to strengthen national food and energy resilience.

However, the President did not specify the eight commodities in the published speech, and to date there has been no official release from the State Palace, the Ministry of Agriculture, or the National Food Agency naming each of the commodities concerned.

Meanwhile, three commodities that have yet to achieve self-sufficiency and remain in deficit are soybeans, garlic, and beef and buffalo meat.
