Prabowo Claims Indonesia is Implementing Real Reforms: What Are They?
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto has claimed that Indonesia is committed to implementing sweeping reforms.
He emphasised that Indonesia wants its international partners to understand the direction of the transformation being carried out by the government, from governance reforms to economic transformation.
“We want our partners to know that Indonesia is determined to carry out real reforms. We want to create a modern and rational society. We want to uphold the supremacy of law. Our people demand good, clean, and efficient governance,” Prabowo stated at the Indonesia-Japan Business Forum in Tokyo on Monday (30/3/2026).
He claimed that Indonesia is no longer solely reliant on exporting unprocessed raw materials.
According to Prabowo, protecting critical minerals as strategic assets is non-negotiable to ensure the welfare of future generations.
“We must secure the highest economic value from our resources. We can no longer be satisfied with exporting raw materials without added value. Our critical minerals are strategic assets. Our mineral resources must be protected for future generations,” he said.
He invited international partners to support large-scale reforestation efforts in damaged forests.
Prabowo also stressed that protecting Indonesia’s forests is not only for domestic interests but also a tangible contribution to the health of planet Earth.
“Forests that have been destroyed must be reforested on a large scale. Not only for Indonesia’s benefit, but also for the world’s good. Many say that we are the lungs of this planet. So, let’s protect those lungs,” Prabowo said.
Indonesia is targeting significant electricity capacity from renewable energy sources in a short time.
“We want to move very quickly to use electricity from solar energy. We have plans and are determined to realise them soon. In three years, we want to achieve 100 gigawatts of solar energy. For us, this is urgent given the current situation,” Prabowo added.
