President Prabowo Subianto has claimed that conditions in the Gaza Strip, Palestine, have improved. The Palestinian territory, which borders Egypt and Israel, had previously been under intense Israeli military bombardment.

Prabowo said the current situation in Gaza is better than it has been in recent years. He expressed confidence that Gaza's residents are now receiving adequate supplies for their basic needs.

"I believe the flow of food aid and essential supplies to the people of Gaza is at its highest level in several years. So food is sufficient, and other necessities are flowing abundantly," Prabowo said after attending the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace in Washington D.C., United States, on Thursday, 19 February 2026 local time.

Prabowo acknowledged that peace efforts in the Gaza Strip would face further challenges ahead, noting that there could be parties unwilling to cooperate in pursuit of peace in Gaza.

According to Prabowo, Indonesia is determined to achieve success through the Board of Peace for the Palestinian people. "We are certainly committed. Earlier, several Muslim nations all reaffirmed our commitment to truly achieving lasting peace," he said.

The Gerindra Party chairman stated that the two-state solution, which Indonesia supports, must be realised. "For us, the real, the only long-lasting solution is a two-state solution," Prabowo said.

Indonesia is currently preparing approximately 8,000 Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) troops for deployment to Gaza through the Interim Security Force (ISF). The ISF is planned to operate under the direction of the Board of Peace, established by United States President Donald John Trump and approved by the United Nations Security Council through Resolution 2803 on 17 November 2025.

During the Board of Peace's inaugural meeting on Thursday, President Donald Trump expressed appreciation in his address for the attendance of national representatives, including President Prabowo. Trump stated that the nations joining the Board of Peace are not only contributing financially but are also willing to send personnel to maintain the ceasefire in Gaza.

Trump then named Indonesia as one of the countries that would be sending troops to Gaza. "Indonesia, thank you very much, Indonesia. That's a great country," Trump said.

Indonesia's involvement in the Board of Peace has attracted criticism domestically. The Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) argued that Indonesia's membership in this US-led international body betrays the spirit and values of the Indonesian people, who have long sided with Palestine.

YLBHI questioned the plan to send thousands of Indonesian troops to 'assist' the United States and Israel in demilitarising Hamas in Palestine. YLBHI emphasised that the plan sets a harmful precedent against Palestine's rights as a state.
