Prabowo Cites Geopolitical Uncertainty as Reason for Delivering Fighter Jets and Missiles to TNI
President Prabowo Subianto has asserted that defence is a primary requirement for national stability and sovereignty, particularly given the recent volatility in the global geopolitical landscape. “But we see the condition of the world; geopolitics is full of uncertainty, and we know that defence is the main requirement for stability and the guarantee that we can remain sovereign,” said Prabowo during the handover of military equipment at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta, on Monday (18/5/2026).
Prabowo spoke during a ceremony for the handover of main weapons systems (alutsista) to the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI). According to the President, the new fleet of aircraft will significantly bolster Indonesia’s air force capabilities. “We are receiving six fighter jets, the Rafale, as well as transport aircraft, the Falcon VIP transport, and the A400. There are also radars,” he stated.
He continued, “We must continuously increase our defence strength to serve as a deterrent. We have no interests other than protecting our own territory.” In essence, Prabowo emphasised that Indonesia will persist in building its defence capabilities. “We want to secure our airspace, our maritime territory, and certainly our land territory,” he concluded.
