Prabowo Chooses Eid Prayer in Aceh, Gibran at Istiqlal Mosque

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – President of the Republic of Indonesia General (Ret.) Prabowo Subianto did not perform Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah prayers at Istiqlal Mosque, Central Jakarta, on Saturday (21/3/2026). The Head of State instead chose to enjoy the takbiran night and Eid prayers at the disaster location.

“Mr President will spend the takbiran night in North Sumatra and, God willing, will perform Eid al-Fitr prayers in Aceh tomorrow morning,” said Cabinet Secretary Lieutenant Colonel Inf Teddy Indra Wijaya when confirmed by media in Jakarta on Friday (20/3/2026).

Meanwhile, Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar stated that several high-ranking state officials are scheduled to perform Eid al-Fitr prayers at Istiqlal Mosque, including Vice President Gibran Rakabuming.

“Yes, of course we will follow the guidance from Mr President. But certainly, tomorrow, God willing, the Vice President along with high-ranking state officials—many of them—will perform prayers here,” Nasaruddin said in Jakarta on Friday.

Nevertheless, he added, President Prabowo’s attendance is still awaiting further instructions from the Palace. “Yes, we are still waiting for the final guidance,” Nasaruddin said.
