President Prabowo Subianto was impressed by the waste management process at the Integrated Environment and Education-Based Waste Processing Site (TPST BLE) in Banyumas. Prabowo challenged Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi and Banyumas Regent Sadewo Tri Lastioni to achieve zero waste by the end of 2028.

Prabowo conveyed this after inspecting TPST BLE in Banyumas, Central Java, on Tuesday (28/4/2026). Prabowo was impressed by the site because equipment that is not overly sophisticated can effectively manage waste. The TPST, according to Prabowo, is even followed by other regions and studied by other countries.

“This is an example where many provinces, many regencies, even from other countries come here. So I received a report from the governor in Central Java that many regencies have already followed, there are 13 (regencies), yes,” said Prabowo.

Going forward, Prabowo will continue to promote similar waste management systems in all provinces. Prabowo is ready to provide direct assistance to develop and improve the systems so that waste management operates effectively.

“So this from the central government will promote it and I will disburse direct assistance for us to develop, improve, develop it to be more effective,” he stated.

Prabowo then revealed the readiness of Regent Sadewo to achieve zero waste in his area by the end of 2028. Sadewo agreed provided there are an additional 15 similar TPSTs.

“The regent’s promise: end of 2028 zero waste,” said Prabowo while looking at Sadewo.

“Provided I get 15 TPSTs,” Sadewo replied.

Prabowo then asked about the readiness of Governor Ahmad Luthfi for zero waste in Central Java by the end of 2028. Luthfi accepted Prabowo’s challenge.

“Central Java?” said Prabowo.

“Central Java is capable, Sir,” Luthfi answered firmly.

“Okay, deal, deal,” Prabowo continued while shaking hands with Luthfi and Sadewo.

Prabowo stated that similar waste management programmes will also be developed in other regions. He emphasised that waste management has become a national priority.

“Yes, all (regions) we will develop. Waste processing now is a national priority; within 2-3 years, we must control waste throughout Indonesia,” he said.
