President Prabowo Subianto performed the Eid al-Adha sunnah prayer with Indonesian citizens and the diaspora at the Indonesian Embassy in Paris on Wednesday, 27 May, coinciding with 10 Zulhijjah 1447 H. His presence at the congregational prayer created a warm and united atmosphere for Indonesians in France.

Around 8:40 am local time, amidst the takbir chants, President Prabowo arrived at the embassy and joined the worshippers in the prayer line to recite takbir before the Eid al-Adha prayer. The worship was conducted solemnly and attended by Indonesian nationals and diaspora who had gathered at the venue since morning.

The prayer was led by imam and khateeb Fakhruddin Arrozi, a master’s graduate of International Islamic University Islamabad currently teaching at Muhammadiyah University of Lamongan.

In his sermon, Fakhruddin emphasised that Eid al-Adha carries not only spiritual significance but also strong humanitarian values. He explained that the sacrifice ritual is not merely a symbol of obedience to Allah, but also a reminder to share, maintain Muslim identity, strengthen family ties, and foster unity, especially for Muslims living abroad.

‘We are not commanded to sacrifice our children like Prophet Ibrahim AS, but rather to sacrifice our egos in obedience to Allah SWT,’ Fakhruddin stated in his sermon, as quoted from the BPMI Setpres press release.

After the prayer, President Prabowo took time to socialise with the Indonesian nationals and diaspora present. In a friendly atmosphere, the President greeted and shook hands with worshippers before attending a gathering and communal meal.

The event served as a crucial moment to strengthen ties between the Head of State and Indonesians overseas, while fostering a sense of brotherhood in celebrating Eid al-Adha far from home. (Mir/P-3)
