Prabowo Cancels Russia Trip to Focus on Domestic Issues

State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi has revealed the reason President Prabowo Subianto cancelled his visit to Russia, where the head of state was scheduled to attend the ASEAN-Russia Summit. Prasetyo Hadi stressed that President Prabowo had his own considerations for cancelling the trip, primarily wanting to focus on resolving domestic issues. “Firstly, of course, he has his own considerations because there are still many things he wants to focus on resolving at home,” Prasetyo Hadi told reporters in Hambalang, Bogor, on Wednesday, 17 June 2026. On the other hand, Prabowo has met with ASEAN leaders at a summit in the Philippines, where the head of state discussed many matters with several leaders of friendly nations. “Secondly, regarding the high-level leaders of ASEAN countries, some time ago he also attended the summit in the Philippines, and many things were discussed,” he said. Prasetyo noted that Prabowo had also met Russian President Vladimir Putin last April, and many issues were discussed with Putin. “Including matters concerning bilateral relations with friendly countries, especially Russia, some time ago he also met with President Putin and discussed many things, and from several cooperation commitments, some have already been followed up technically,” he added.
